Need help.

Solve using the quadratic formula, approximate the solution to the nearest tenth.

\[ 5x^2 + 5x = 6 \]

Answer is _______

Asked by michellewilliam

Answer (2)

5x² + 5x + nothing Ax² + Bx + C
A = 5 B = 5 C = 0
Quadratic formula:
x = (1/2A) times [ -B plus and minus √(B²-4AC) ]
B² - 4AC = 25 - 4(5)(0) = 25
-B plus and minus √25 = -5 plus and minus 5 = -10 and zero.
(1/2A) times (-10 and zero) = (1/10) times (-10 and zero) = -1 and zero
x = 1 and x = 0
What is that '6' doing in there ? Where does it belong ? Did you copy the problem correctly ?

The solutions to the equation 5 x 2 + 5 x − 6 = 0 are approximately x ≈ 0.7 and x ≈ − 1.7 . These values are obtained by applying the quadratic formula after rearranging the equation into standard form. The discriminant showed two real and distinct solutions.
