Is 0.500 greater than 0.50 and 0.5? Explain.

Answer (3)

0.500 = 0.50 = 0.5
They are all equal, since their values are all equal to five tenths, or one half. The zeros in 0.500 and 0.50, equal just that - zero. Since they equal zero, you can cross them out, which leaves you with 0.5.

They are exactly the same number. .500 .50 is actually written as .5 When you are to the right of the decimal point, any ending zeroes are erased.

0.500 is equal to 0.50 and 0.5, as they all represent the same value of five tenths. Therefore, none of these values is greater than the others. The zeros are significant in terms of measurement precision but do not change the numerical value.
